COMMUNICATIONS
This course focuses on the various ways union leadership, shop stewards and rank and file can communicate with fellow members, employers, media and the public. The course includes an overview on what communications is and includes team “homework” assignments, which can include producing a short video, creating social media memes, press releases and media advisories. Students with laptops, tablets and smartphones are encouraged to bring them to class. Cameras are optional.
The course also focuses on utilizing social media (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Instagram etc.) and the various apps out there that are beneficial for organizing and communication. (For students who do not have
social media accounts, assistance in setting them up can be provided by the instructor.)
This course is taught by union communications pro Leslie Simmons.
